The Problem
Most desktop-class printers still boot generic Linux images or half-maintained SBC distros.
Firmware flashes, driver mismatches, broken packages, requests for sudo — operators lose hours before the first layer even sticks.
The Solution — Protype OS
Protype OS boots to the graphical UI in just eight seconds, giving you a ready-to-use UI before the hotend even reaches 50 °C. Its atomic OTA system uses dual A/B root partitions, so a failed update simply rolls back—no SD-card swaps, no risk of bricking. A signed kernel and LUKS-encrypted userdata keep your G-codes, network keys and IP fully protected.
The image ships with Protype HUB pre-installed and already paired with Moonraker, so you need zero command-line setup. A curated driver bundle recognises SKR, Octopus, BTT-PI boards and UVC cameras on first boot, while a built-in cloud tunnel lets you enable secure remote access with a single toggle, complete with JWT and automatic token rotation managed by systemd.
Finally, the root filesystem is read-only by default, ensuring that even a sudden power loss won’t corrupt the OS, so you can resume printing with total confidence.
