Cookies, analytics and advertising

This website sets no cookies until you allow analytics and advertising. Before that answer, no third-party script is loaded at all: nothing is requested from Google, no advertising pixel runs, and no identifier is created for you.

Signing in is separate from that choice, and does not wait for it: it is strictly necessary, so we are disclosing it here rather than asking permission for it. Choosing to sign in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in, and, only while a sign-in with Authentik is in progress, a second, short-lived cookie that is deleted as soon as it finishes. Neither is set simply by visiting the site.

If you press "Allow all", the site loads Google Tag Manager, which in turn runs Google Analytics and Google's advertising tags. They set their own cookies — among them the ones whose names begin _ga — that give your browser a random identifier, and they send the pages you look at, together with your IP address and the approximate location derived from it, to Google. Google processes that on our behalf under its data processing terms.

Advertising is the part worth being plain about. Saying yes lets us show our own ads to people who have been on this site, and lets Google use the signals it received here when it decides which of our ads to show and to whom. We do not sell anything about you to anybody, and we do not buy information about you from anybody. If that is not something you want, "No thanks" is the button beside it and costs you nothing on this site.

Two things are stored by us in your browser and never sent anywhere: a marker that stops a page reload from being counted twice, and a note of the answer you gave. Both disappear when you clear your browser storage.

You can withdraw permission at any time, in one click, at the bottom of this page. Withdrawing stops the tags loading again from that moment; cookies Google has already set are removed when you clear your browser storage.

Counting visits and downloads

Separately from the above, and whether or not you allow Google, we count which page was visited on which day, and which platform a download link was clicked for. This count is our own: it sets no cookies, contains nothing about you, is not linked to any identifier, is not shared with anybody, and is not used to follow you across other sites.

You can stop it with one click on the notice at the bottom of the page, or on this one. We also honour a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, without you having to do anything — that signal stops both the count and Google.

When you write to us

The contact form sends your name, email address, company, chosen topic and message to our team over Telegram. We separately record the date, topic, name, email, company, and the page and campaign the enquiry came from, so we can tell how many enquiries arrive and where from. The text of your message is not kept in that record.

Your IP address is used only to limit how often the form can be submitted. It lives in memory for a few minutes and is not written to storage.

Your account and your printers

Using Protype Hub requires an account. Signing in is handled by our identity service at auth.protype.dev, which holds your email address and credentials.

The hub service records the printers you enrol, the tunnel configuration that lets your devices reach them, and who has been granted access to which machine. Privileged actions are logged on the printer itself.

Printing does not pass through us. There is no cloud slicer and no cloud queue, and your model files are not processed by our service.

Payments

Payments, when we take them, are processed by Stripe. Card details go to Stripe and never reach our systems. We hold a customer reference and the status of a subscription.

What the apps send

The Protype Hub apps currently send no usage analytics.

When that changes they will send three things and no more: that the app was opened, with its version, platform and a random identifier belonging to the installation; that a printer was connected, with its make and model and whether the connection is local or through the tunnel; and that the app was opened again by the same installation. No addresses, no printer names, no keys, and nothing tied to your account.

This section and the App Store privacy card will be updated in the release that starts sending it, not after.

How long we keep things

Enquiry records and aggregate counts are kept while they remain useful for understanding how the business is doing. Account and device records are kept while the account exists.

Your rights

Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to erase it, object to how we use it, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to [email protected].

To have an account removed, submit a request at hub.protype.dev/deleteaccount. A person reviews and carries out each request; we action them within 30 days, and will tell you if a request will take longer than that.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national supervisory authority — in the United Kingdom, the Information Commissioner's Office.

Where your data is handled

Our website runs on our own server, our messaging runs over Telegram, payments run through Stripe, and — only with your permission — website analytics and advertising run through Google. Telegram, Stripe and Google operate internationally, including in the United States, so your data may be handled outside the country you are in.

The date at the top of this page is when it was last reviewed. Material changes will be described here rather than made silently.
